I was raised and baptized in the church when I was a baby, as many are. But I didn't understand the importance of Christ, the cross or the resurrection. It wasn't that the churches I went to were bad, there was simply too much emphasis on what I had to do to be x-y-or-z. "But all have sinned (done wrong) and fall short of God's glory (standards)" (Romans 3:23).
So sets the stage for My Favorite Love Story...
It's been 12 years since someone spoke to me about the cross, and only the past 4 years have I begun to understand the love of God and the reason he sent his son to die on a cross in the first place. "If you(, insert your name,) declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him (Jesus) from the dead, you will be saved (from eternal punishment for your sin)" (Romans 10:9).
At the cross, death was defeated, and, as proof, three days later Jesus arose from the dead. The application is to BELIEVE that this act of love is enough to make you right before God and free from the punishment of sin. There is nothing we can do to earn our way to heaven, and we will never be good enough to get there on our own. Even so, we have been called to turn from our ways and live like him. "...apart from me (Jesus) you can do nothing" (John 15:5b)
It is through this love story that God stole my heart and awakened my unsatisfied soul to Him. He called me out from a lifestyle that was self gratifying and in opposition to His will. In the Spring of 2013, I resolved to love, live and seek Him first. This was when my life was changed. This was when I fell in love.
I began reading God's word daily, growing in understanding and intimacy and gaining a new, rich life. I began to serve and get connected with others at the church; these friends encouraged me during times of weakness, doubt and trial. I am by no means close to where I want to be, but 'I continue to press on, run my race and fight the good fight!'
It is my privilege to share my love with you...
